Summer Kitchen in Afternoon

Summer is fleeting and I haven't shared a bit
 of my summer decor yet.

It's been one of those kinds of summers.

So, before someone says summer is over
I am making an effort to share now....
starting with the kitchen and hopefully working my way around.

Fresh lemons, bee teapot, a touch of old wicker
and ironstoneis residing on my table.

This changes practically every day often,
but this is how it is at the moment.

The neighborhood children went back to school yesterday.
And for once our weather is perfect -
with a summer that has been the worst I can remember.

It's never rained as much, followed by horrible heat and humidity.
I feel so bad for the children - watching them get on the bus
about broke my heart.

But it's been peaceful and quiet, too, because of it.

Summer afternoon—summer afternoon;
to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.

                                                                                                                                     ~H. James

Oh, for a summer noon,
when light and breeze sport on the grass,
like ripples o’er a lake alive with freshness!

When the full round sun,
with the Creator’s smile upon His face,
Walks like a Prince of Glory
 through the path of Heaven!

Thou vast, and ever-glorious sky,
mantling the earth with Thy majestic robe.

                                                                           R. Montgomery

SOMETHING PROFOUND TO PONDER ABOUT BEES:

Is it realistic to believe the notion that insecticides kill 'nasty insects', whilst conveniently leaving alone the 'nice' insects, like bees, butterflies and ladybugs?  Those saying "Insecticides kill insects but not bees" reminds me of the naked Emperor in ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’ and all those characters insisting he was, indeed wearing clothes.

As always, thank you for stopping by!

~Michele

  3. School has started here already too, and it's still so hot -- ugh! On a brighter note, I just love your table and chairs! The table setting goes so well with it. :)

  4. Your eating area is so bright and cheery. I love a lot of light coming in. Your bee teapot is very pretty.
It's pretty quite around here also as the kids went back to school on Monday. I feel for them as it is almost 100 degrees here. All of the schools here have a/c.
So glad that you are finally having some nice summer weather. Now you know why I left Ohio - was so tired of all the snow and hot humid weather in summer time. We lived outside of Cleveland.

Take care of your foot, I know you will be so glad to get that boot off. Have a terrific weekend.

  5. Beautiful table setting, it really has been a fleeting summer this year I don't feel that we have had one. Terrific tea pot.

  7. I love the color of our cabinets, Michele! Your table is in a great place to look out the windows into your beautiful yard. Cute teapot, too.

  9. What a pretty vignette on your beautiful black kitchen table, Michele! I also love the soft color of your kitchen cabinets. Of course, your bee teapot is simply adorable!

  10. It fun to change things throughout the house and your kitchen looks very charming with the lovely vignette on the table. The teapot is so cute. Have you read the Bee Cottage Story, I think you would enjoy it...it is by Francis Schultz and her year of remodeling a cottage in the Hamptons. Charming. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

  11. love your kitchen and lemons set out on a counter make everything look so fresh! And I love the summer sayings....especially summer afternoon. :) I put a finch feeder up this summer just outside the window and I have so enjoyed seeing the beautiful yellow birds all summer

  12. LOVE that teapot. Out kids don't go back to school until after labour day.

  13. I have heard that the honey bees are making a comeback. Good news! I love your bee teapot. And so sad about children having to go back to school. We have a law now that school doesn't start until after Labor Day, but I think it's because Michigan wants to support our tourism industry, and cash in on people taking long Labor Day weekends. I think it's a good idea all around.

  14. Very cute, Michele! Love the bee teapot :)

You know... I've never understood why they changed the time of year that the kids go back to school. They really do need to change it back to after Labor Day. I feel sorry for them too.

    Have a great weekend!

  15. Valid point about the bees and good riddance to all the chemicals we used back when that killed the good bugs with the bad. People need to learn to create a balance where nature's food chain works efficiently. :-) (so says the gardener LOL)
Wow, I love that bee teapot Michele, I'll bring the honey to have in our tea.

  16. You've definitely captured the summer look with your bees teapot and container of lemons on the table. I've been enjoying more time to get stuff done while school is back in session too. I like the schedule being back in place. We go to bed earlier and wake up earlier and I feel like our day is more productive now. I am anxious for Fall though. It has been very hot and humid here and the cooler temps will be nice.

  17. Oh what a nice post. I agree summer afternoon is a pleasant thought and in conjures up great memories of many good ones past. We didn't have a lot of rain like you did but when it did it always created extra humidity that makes things seem miserable. Our area holds off on school starting until the day after Labor Day. September is generally a nice month weather wise. I hate to rush summer along but I do love forward to the nice temps that will be coming.

  18. Lol that Mongomery quote is one of my favorites. I just did a post about my summer mantle with a picture I made using it. Our summers get shorter and the winters longer. I feel bad for the kids going back so early! Thanks for your lovely pictures-- love the bee pot!

  19. Your kitchen is so bright and cheery! It amazes me that schools (in the south?) are already back in session when summer isn't even over. Maybe they get out in early May instead of June...

  20. Hi Michele! Oh, what a lovely little vignette! Love your little teapot. Poor little kiddies! Aren't your glad you don't have to go to school anymore? Man, I am! Thanks for popping in and I hope your weekend has been a good one.

  21. Such a sweet and fun summer vignette! We have endured the hottest temps of the year this past week ranging between 115 - 118. Kids when back to school August 3, way too early, but at least they spend their days in an air conditioned school! Enjoy all that is left of summer in your area! Blessings, Cindy

  22. I enjoyed seeing your kitchen---not sure if I've seen it before but it looks fresh and airy and real!!

How nice of you to think of the children outdoors in the heat. So many of us complain when WE have to go out into it. You have a generous heart.

Your comment on my post, all the parallel issues we have going on blew my mind. I pray we both get on with our heads on straight!

Love and prayers to you, Michele!

  24. Hello Michele,

I love your home. It is very bright and cozy. I love all the windows in front of your eating area. And the bee teapot is adorable. Just a few more weeks before the children around here start school but it also means the end of summer for us and I am not sure if I am happy with that yet.

Enjoy the rest of the warm days,

    Janet

  33. Your kitchen is so pretty! I really like the black accents you have. It's still summer here too and although it's been super hot...I hate for it to end. I love looking out at the green just like you can through all those windows.
