Shadow Sunday - Leaf

  Autumn is in the air....

Autumn crept up on us slowly
We felt the lingering touch of summer start to fade
And the heat that had seeped into our skin 
Was beginning to dissipate 

I watched the leaves go from brilliant green 
To deep oranges and reds
They were beautiful despite the fact that they were dying
It broke my heart to watch the trees betray them...

Shamrock Shadows

I am a little late for Shadow Sunday

 due to visiting my husband's family

over the weekend.

We were belatedly celebrating Mr. Finch Rest's birthday

 with them and had a truly wonderful time.

The other day was so sunny and beautiful

I was able to capture a few seasonal shadows to share today.

This silk shamrock wreath/candle ring

 fits rather nicely with my old Belleek candle holder.

I ♥  it has what appears to be Leprechaun Lucky Dust on it!

 was captured in early morning with the sun

 beginning to blaze in the east.

 It was a snowy cold day so I simply opened the door

 and quickly snapped this pic...explaining its odd angle.

 I did it fast, as I was still in jammies

 and didn't want the neighbors to see me!

 as the sun moves during the day.



Start with one very-much loved adorable kitty
sitting in his favorite sunny spot just chillaxin'.......

Then the combination of the bright warm sun

and a happy full tummy makes him kinda sleepy.

Doesn't he have that "What, Mom? Sheesh,  can't you just please leave me be and quit your blog pic takin' for half a second so a kitty can be lazy for a while uninterrupted??!!??"

He's closing his eyes, oh boy, look out, he's gonna be out all day!

He is a seriously sound napper

who can and will sleep for hours upon hours

and roll about, trying to keep up with the

changing moving sunbeam.

Yes I have used this pic before but it is just perfect for this post.

Power Out - reading in shadow

WOW did we get hit with a really nasty storm - one of the worst I have ever seen! We had 83 mile-an-hour winds and it wreaked havoc all over - trees down, power out, roads closed.....fortunately we lost no trees or big limbs, but we lost several potted plants.

This storm even UPROOTED some of our recently planted plants - tore them right out of the garden!!!!

So, it's been super hot (high 90s) very humid and we had no power for two whole days.  What's a blogger gal to do with all this time in the dark,  you ask?

Yes. Keep very still (to keep cool) and read with a flashlight! (DH took this photo and I didn't even know it till afterwards!) I guess when I am reading the world could collide with the moon and I probably wouldn't notice. Haha.

Yes, that's our trusty kitty cat Romeo keeping me company (and adding all sorts of extra heat- thanks, you furry beast) lounging away on my tummy. I like to think it is devotion, but most likely it is because my tummy is extra soft and super comfy. Sigh.

It was challenging to hold the book up like that but I was enjoying that cat and couldn't exactly put the book on my tummy or on his back, so out of love I held it and kept switching arms when they would tire.

The book I am reading is fantastic!!!! It is called THE FORGOTTEN GARDEN by Kate Morton. It's one of the best contemporary books I have read in a very long time. It's flavored a little bit with Jane Austen's type worries, a reminder of Titanic, and more than just a hint of the Secret Garden. It's definately a page-turning mystery all rolled into one wonderful book.

As inconvenient and uncomfortable it was losing our electricity, it ended up quite nice being "unplugged" for a few days. I realized during the outtage just how much time I spend with working, playing and blogging on the computer - WAY too much!

 It's been entirely too long since I have read simply for pleasure. I was long overdue - and it took that act of God to remind me.

So, yes, I have a lot of catching up to do in Blogville and for work- and I shall - but for now I am just enjoying being safe and "air conditioned" again!

I am truly sorry for anyone who experienced serious loss in this storm as it ripped through the States. I am praying for you all.

Cupcakes

Last week my middle niece came to spend the night.  She wanted to bake something, so we made cupcakes. I let her make whatever colors and decorate however she cared to decorate them.

We made a few dozen and gave many away, but she kept about a dozen to take home.

As they were drying before I had to take her home, we came to my blog and I showed her some of my posts, some of my favorite blogs and various linky parties I love to join.

When it was time to take her home and we went to the kitchen to pack her cupcakes to share with her brother and sisters...........and she exclaimed "Aunt Shell, wait, I have a great idea!"

She formed a circle with the cupcakes and shut out the light (later day lighting is always shadowy.)Apparently she saw this. and said "It would be perfect for a Shadow Sunday!"

And she is right. And it is SO NICE to know they really do pay attention.

This girl is a blogger waiting to happen for sure.

This is Delaney Eileen, my niece and God-daughter.  You met her little sister last week.

She's a cheerleader and really awesome kid - very outgoing and extremely likeable! She is a bit melodramatic, and just "threw" herself onto the table as I was snappin the pic. She''s SO much fun!
