House Tour - Part 2 - KITCHEN (summer)

As promised, here is a continuation of more "tour" of our nest.

There is a GREAT deal of kitchen touring going on this week
so I thought, "Ok- kitchen tour post time for me it shall be!"

So....welcome friends to  our kitchen.

The decor in here changes so often that it is quite likely
that it will even be different before bed time tonight.

I know I have issues. But I know I am not alone.

: - )

We've done a lot of renovating to this space since moving here.

We placed black granite on the island to "anchor" the space
and to tie in the bits of black elsewhere we love so much.

A year later we bought the rest of the granite,
and the tumbled stone for the backsplash.

We still have our original builder-grade solid wood pickled oak cabinets -
which I kinda actually like, but will eventually upgrade/replace
and use these in the basement craft area.

We replaced the chandy and painted.

We have replaced all our appliances.
Our double oven with glass top is awesome to use.

We chose white to keep things bright in here,
but we did buy an over-sized French-doors stainless steel fridge.

Having our old fridge in the garage is a life saver when
we have dinner or tea party guests!

We're truly blessed to have an eat-in kitchen.
(I have shown this a few times.)

The kitchen is west-facing to 2 acres.
It's difficult to see all the green
with this odd sunny bright-but-hazy day.

We also have a large formal dining room
that I recently shared in this house tour here.

We entertain frequently and this extra seating
really comes in handy sometimes!

There is a very old chippy farmhouse hutch in the perfect little spot.

The upper shelves are for seasonal or favorites -
this is how it's featured for summer's end.

It is great for added drawer storage
and to be able to show off
white ironstone and china pieces.

I still has it's original key!

(I love me just a little touch of farmhouse.)

So......moving on.......

OXYGEN, anyone?!?

I lost count how many full plants came
from cuttings of the pothos or dividing my shamrocks.

The Pothos is over 20 years old, the shamrocks are over 13, and the bonsai tree is 11 years old.

I've had this chippy Fleur-de-Lis planter since way before forever.

Plants are the perfect way to cover unsightly electrical plugs!

Here is the view from our kitchen sink.

Some of you already know that this is my favorite
FINCH REST feeder....

Those yellow finches keep me company all day long!

They eluded me this time for my kitchen sharing pics tho!

Here is the view when standing next to the island
looking into the living room.

To the right above those columns is the loft area
and upstairs.

More of the living room to come
in my Part 3 House Tour post soon.

You can glimpse a few bits of our garden produce
in that old basket tucked in the corner.

We've got corn, zucchini, squash
and lots and lots of tomatoes already.

 YUM!

THANK YOU so much for your visit today.

Hugs

~Michele

  3. Oh I've spent some time this evening doing the kitchen tours out in Blogdom and was happily surprised to find you doing one, too. Your kitchen is bright and cheerful and roomy! Looks as if you have tons of space to be organized and places for all your beautiful dishes. I like your eat-in space, too. I see all that green!

  4. Thanks Michele for sharing your kitchen. Isn't it great to see our kitchens evolve over the years. Your addition of granite was perfect. I don't have granite but sure plan to in my next house. I love little house plants especially when they have a history or extended time with us. I have some that we have had for a long time and they just keep thriving.

  5. Lady Nann (Nancy) here....What a BEAUTIFUL kitchen and home you have. I absolutely LOVE it. One of these fine days I'm hoping to come and see it for myself! Have truly missed you Michele since I've stopped blogging. But I think of you often...like everyday I walk pass that darling tea cup arrangement you sent me. I will always treasure it. Presently I'm knee deep in the cooking contest world and am having the time of my life. But I so want to keep in touch with you! Love you my sweet friend!

  6. Michele- What a wonderful kitchen. It is bright and I love an eating area that faces West. Ours does, too. The kitchen looks like it is good sized and I love the way it ties into your living area. It looks really comfortable and like you love your home. Our colors are very similar.

Love that your kitchen windows give you a chance to watch the finches. We don't have any finches here. The first year we were here we had them and then they all kind of disappeared. I loved seeing them. We didn't have any hummers these last two years either. Hope you have a great night- xo Diana

  8. Michele, I am so enjoying your home tour...it is different then
what I expected. With all of your beautiful china...I assumed it would be on display in every room! I'm not saying that would be good or bad by the way, but your husband must have built you one huge china closet! I love that sitting room off of your kitchen...it is so cozy!! Thank you for sharing your home with us, it is absolutely beautiful!

    1. A HUGE portion of our basement is one huge china storage area.

I love my girlie china, but don't use it in decor. I use it for my teas, then put it away pretty much out of sight, except for what shows in my china cabinet - but even then what shows is basic and not all china, either.

  13. I love that hutch, Michele! It is gorgeous. Wish I had the room for something like that here. I love your kitchen and all the natural light you've got. I really miss that from our old house. I had windows in every room in that house and it is the one thing I dislike about our condo, especially not having a window in the kitchen.

  14. Your kitchen is huge and airy Michele, not many people could have a table for 6. I like all the country touches, the type of decor I had when we first moved here. Good idea to store china in the basement, with my buffet and hutch full, I've been wondering where I should look next.
    Have a great weekend.
