A little space of my own....

Sometimes it is a challenge to carve a private feminine niche all of my own in a home lovingly shared with a very manly man. My DH never complains - he knows designing, decorating and REdecorating is a thing I just love to do. He doesn't understand it, but does understand it is very important to me. So I pretty much do what I do with next to no resistance. HOWEVER sometimes I know I can get a little TOO girlie. I have a guest bedroom that is over-the-top girlie - designed with my sister in mind when she visits. (One day soon I will share that space with Blogland.) It is a space my husband says is made up entirely of estrogen, haha.

My blog today is not about THOSE kinds of ultra feminine girlie teapot-pink spaces.....but about carving out a simple and quietly feminine space that complements the rest  of our home. One such space I am sharing today, located in an odd and awkward part of the house.....can be found in the upstairs loft landing area. This is now one of my VERY FAVORITE spaces in our entire nest! It may not look like much, but it is a wonderful little comfy spot to spend time doing two things I love very much: reading comfortably, and sipping tea while doing so.

Here you will see I have my petite reading chair. (I'm only five foot, DH is 6'3" so we have vastly different chair sizes needed!)  This reading chair fits me oh-so-perfectly - like Goldilocks would exclaim "this one is juuuuuust right!" My feet fit firmly on the floor and I can happily & comfortably read for hours.  I have my lumbar birdie pillow for back comfort.  I have my self-designed pretty silk floral arrangement. I have a sweet little friendship bird plaque given to me by a friend. To complete the look I simply covered a small wooden side table with a pretty vintage Battenburg lace linen, and finished with a rare antique hand painted teacup.

In keeping with the theme of the fantastic give-away of a publication called HERS by Jacqueline deMontravel (editor of the fabulous Romantic Homes magazine) which features adding feminine touches throughout masculine spaces, I am linking up with Courtney at French Country Cottage's Feathered Nest Friday!

  2. This is so sweet! I love your little spot! Wow big difference 5' and 6' 3" !! You cancomfortably fit under his armpit!! LOL
I know what you mean though about chairs that are too big and you can't even touch the floor!
I'm not into the "pink" feminine look too much but I do enjoy feminine things. I'm into golds, olives, rusts and reds so this spot of yours suits me just fine!
